ROMEO project organizes a new session in the framework of the EUSEW to address the relevance of R&D to reach the European goals on green transition

The registrations for the session, which is scheduled for the 13th of October, are open until the 8th of October

The EU is already a world leader in offshore renewable energy production and technologies. And there is potential for further development cost-effectively. Research and innovation technologies on Offshore Wind Power can contribute to the reshaping that needs the European Energy System to achieve 55% net reductions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

In this context, Romeo Project has organized a session in the framework of EUSEW that will be happening on the 13th of October. The event has been designed to present and discuss the state of the art technologies of Offshore Wind Power focused on the R&D collaborative and most innovative projects funded by the H2020 Programme, with Flagship and Elican initiatives also being part of the meeting. The registrations are open until the 8th of October.

During the session these emblematic initiatives with pilots/demos in different European areas will be shared. One of them will be ROMEO, an initiative that develops advanced technological solutions that enable offshore wind power facilities’ operation and maintenance costs to be reduced.

Another significant project that will be presented at the event is FLAGSHIP, an initiative that will design and fabricate the first 10 MW Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT) assembled on a floating semi-submersible concrete structure in the Norwegian North Sea. The aim is to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) for floating offshore wind to 40-60 €/MWh by 2030.

Panellists will discuss the opportunities of the EU Strategy on Offshore Renewable Energy. To maintain and develop European technological leadership, strengthen the supply chain, and foster regional cooperation are some of the critical pillars of the strategy aligned with initiatives proposed for this session.

The event will start at 12.00 PM with opening remarks by the ETIPWind Senior Analyst System Integration and digitalisation, Vasiliki Klonari. The welcome words will be followed by a keynote speech made by Carlos Eduardo Lima da Cunha, Policy Officer DG RTD with the European Commission.

After that a panel discussion will take place at 12.15 PM, when César Yánes, ROMEO Project coordinator, from Iberdrola Renovables, will showcase the main topics of the initiative.

Regarding FLAGSHIP Project, Ellen Grete Andersen, Project Manager (EPCI), from Aker solutions, will explain to the assistants how this initiative will contribute to the climate neutrality targets.

Carlos García Acón, Board Member and Managing Director of ESTEYCO, in representation of ELICAN Project, will also share the main features of the initiative.

The session will be a meeting point to showcase and discuss the most innovative solutions in the offshore playground and how key players of the value chain and Technological Platforms collaborate to accelerate the development of the offshore capacity.
