The world will celebrate Global Wind Day on 15th of June, a worldwide event for discovering wind energy, its power and possibilities to reshape global energy systems, decarbonise economies and boost jobs and growth.

This event is an opportunity for citizens around the world to learn more about wind power and how to be proactive to support it. It’s also an opportunity for companies to showcase their technologies and contributions to local economic development and job creation.

The wind supply chain is benefitting regions across the globe, including economically less-advantaged ones. In fact, wind energy is now a global success story, and the wind industry provides quality high-skilled jobs in Europe and in all over the world.

Global Wind Day is a coordinated action between Wind Europe and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) to introduce wind energy through a series of activities to the general public. In partnership with Wind Europe and GWEC, wind energy associations and companies involved in the production of wind energy organize events in many countries around the world. In the run-up to 15th  June, hundreds of public events will be held all over the world from family outings and wind farm visits to seminars with experts and leading industry figures.

As part of the Global Wind Day activities, WindEurope and the GWEC have launched a global photo competition called “Future Wind” to capture the power of wind in the run up to Global Wind Day. Creativity, content, composition and technique as well as a compelling story behind the photograph are the key criteria for the judges. The competition will close on 5th of June and winners will be announced on Global Wind Day.

The main goals of the Global Wind Day are aligned with ROMEO Project, a European initiative that promotes research and innovation, and its objective is to develop advanced technological solutions that enable the operation and maintenance costs of offshore wind farms to be reduced.

Wind energy is providing the world with clean, affordable power. So, join Global Wind Day and don’t forget to use the hashtag #GlobalWindDay!
